Hello! Look who actually got to posting a monthly wrap up! This gal∼
November was a great month reading wise. I only had one book that I disliked and I’ll get more into that later. Beside one dud I read a lot of awesome books this month!
Jek/Hyde by Amy Ross
2 out of 5 stars
I will start by saying I won this book in a giveaway by the author. So of course I am super thankful for that but I will always give an honest review no matter what. I was super excited to read this book. I was beyond excited to get a copy and I was ignoring all the negative reviews I saw on GoodReads so I could form my own opinion. WELL. I finally got around to reading it and I was super disappointed. There are two main problems I had with this book. One is that it contained so many references to sex and drugs. It read as if those were the only things the teens of the town did. While is spoke of all this mature subject matter it read in a kind of naive young voice. Maybe it’s just me. My second problem is that it was established in the beginning that Jek was the only black person in the entire town. Now okay maybe that is possible but is it necessary to mention this fact constantly throughout the book as if it would change suddenly. That just got on my nerves for the entire book. So by the end I was already over the book. I didn’t like the way it was written and I hated the constant sex and drugs. The icing on this cake was the very unbelievable ending. Lulu our other character throughout the book showed disdain for what Jek was doing yet the very end has her say she cannot wait to meet her other side…not very likely since she hated Jek’s experiment. It ends as if there could be a sequel but really this book should be left as is. It was just bad. For me anyway, I am sure some readers might enjoy the story so more power to them.
Percy Jackson Books 1-4
5 out of 5 Stars
(I read book 5 beginning December)
I will be doing a complete series review in a separate article so I will keep this brief.
I love this series and cannot wait to continue with the Heroes of Olympus series. Rick Riordan has written some of the most lovable characters ever. Not only are they so wonderful they are also flawed and they feel so real. He includes diverse characters which is so refreshing in books. I just cannot get enough of Percy, Annabeth, and Nico. Nico di Angelo is my child now I am adopting him. Anyway. I will be doing an entire review of this series very very soon so stay tuned for that!
Let us hope December is as awesome a reading month as November was!!
